Of course the first thing I did this morning at work was check Jon's blog.
Sounds like he's in search of a little validation himself. He asked why people are drawn to his corner of cyberspace.
Well, let's examine his most recent post and see what I got out of it:
-I got two movie reviews from a source I trust rather than some maniacal Fellini
fan who happens to have a newspaper column or syndicated TV show.
-I got a comic review which will be very helpful next time I go to the comic
store and stand in front of the racks for an hour trying to remember if I already
have Batman #616 Yes. I'm 36 years old with two dependant children, a mortgage
and I'm still buying comics every now and again. I don't knock your hobbies.
Unless it's something really dumb like cockfighting. . . or NASCAR.
-I learned a little about Seattle geography and where to see a movie if I'm
ever in town.
-They sell Dippin' Dots at McDonald's on the west coast? You won't find them
at McDonald's here in the Midwest.
-I discovered a little about the pathology of an semi-confessed insomniac.
-I laughed out loud a couple of times particularly when Jon wrote about parts
of women's brains being sucked out as they give birth. Admitting this puts me
in grave danger but it helps illustrate my point.
That's a crapload of infotainment that Jon sacrificed sleepytime to stuff into his blogspot. He does all the work and all we have to do is point and click. Doesn't seem fair.
That's why I'm urging you to do your part by starting a blog of your own. If you have a computer and you're reading this then you have all the tools you need to start spewing your thoughts to everyone with an ISP. If you think no one cares you're wrong. I'll read it. My Mom and Judy will probably read it. We'll laugh, cry and sing(?) together as we gather in front of our monitors to electronically reconstruct the sense of community we began sacrificing to cable television during the late 70's.
