I still can't believe I had the presence of mind to take this photo.
If you are squeamish, you may not want to click on the link below. It's pretty disgusting.
Allie was sleeping with her cousin Emily in a little tent in the basement. I went downstairs to kiss them both goodnight and brought my camera along to get some cute shots of the two girls and their little slumber party.
They were already in bed with the lights out. Believe me when I tell you that when the lights are out in the basement, it's very dark. In fact, I had a hard time finding their little tent.
As I walked toward the tent, I noticed a shape moving near the door flap. I thought it was our cat wandering around in the dark hoping to find the crumbs of something Allie and Emily had dropped earlier.
I continued on to the tent when I stubbed my toe on the futon. I was angry and so I went back to the stairs and flipped the light on. With the basement completely lit up I could now see what the shape moving near the door flap was.
It was the biggest rodent I'd ever seen in my life!
I couldn't move. My mouth was frozen wide open as I watched this thing lurch toward Allie.
I don't know what I was thinking. Rather than grabbing something to beat this thing to death and get it away from my daughters head I lifted the camera and took this picture.
